Blakelaw

A Newcastle suburb built substantially as post-war council housing.

Post-war growth

Like Longbenton and Kenton nearby, Blakelaw took much of its present shape from the wave of council housebuilding that followed the Second World War, as Newcastle rehoused residents from older, cleared inner-city terraces into new estates on the city's edge. It remains a predominantly residential suburb in the north-west of the city today.
